Windows Phone is Now Officially Dead

What it’s die hard fans already knew,¬†Microsoft Corporate VP of Windows Joe Belfiore confirmed Windows Phone is now dead!

Microsoft will no longer build new features and hardware for Windows 10 Mobile. But Windows Phone users will get bug fixes and security update support from Microsoft. Joe wrote in his tweet, “Of course we’ll continue to support the platform.. bug fixes, security updates, etc. But building new features/hw aren’t the focus.” This is the first time, one of Microsoft’s top executive admits the future of Windows Phone.

It was much anticipated! The biggest reason is the lowest interest of app developers in this platform. Less apps and thus resulting no popularity of the Windows Phone. Actually it is 1% of total mobile market share. Though Microsoft tried at best to promote this platform, paid money, build apps for developers but all in vein. Total number of users of Windows Phone is so poor for most company’s to invest.

Even Bill Gates moved from Windows Phone to Android. The latest news is, Microsoft is building more apps for iOS and Android devices like Windows 10 Edge browser app currently in beta version along with app launcher for Android to customize home screen.

The tweet from Joe is actually a dead end of Windows Phone. But what next? What’s the future of “Universal Windows App” idea? What about “Surface Phone” rumor? Some serious questions are left behind!
